Hey guys,

So I'm thinking of building a pretty beastly rig between February to April, it may seem far ahead but that is because I want to start saving now so that I can have a budget of say £1500-£2000.

I know that Nvidia's Maxwell Series GPU's are coming early next year, but apart from that, what else is coming? I want to use a GTX 880 in my build, so hopefully it won't reflect the release of the 780 (the 780 was released in May).

I don't want to get something in my build only to have it outdated within 2 months, it's annoying, so any heads up would be good, thanks!

The AMD Radeon HD 9000 series (Or R9 series, if the naming convention change goes through) will release in the next few months, before the end of the year at least.

AMD 9XXX series and just after that time period most likely broadwell.

R9-xxx and Maxwell are both pretty soon to the table, then broadwell.

Gtx 790 or Titan Ultra is also a possibility sometime before Maxwell too :)

Oh yeah forgot to mention that I knew about R9xxx, but from what I've heard and seen the GTX 8xx will be better. Plus a 790/Titan Ultra would be out of my price range haha.

Well, you've seen more than me then xD As far as I know neither of them exist yet.

Really? Links?

Is that the i7-4771 thing?

Broadwell is not for desktops, it's the exact Haswell architecture shrunk to 14nm for the mobile market. The 2014 year will have no new CPUs unless you will count "Haswell Refresh" which is supposed to be simply a rebadge (+100mhz to base clock and stuff like this -.-). The next Intel CPU ->>> 2015 ->>> Skylake architecture on 14nm.

Oh well before Skylake there will be Haswell Extreme in 2014.

Another thing to watch out for is that AMD plans to announce the Kaveri line of APUs in January/February. APU's have strong single threaded cores, as compared to FX CPU's, so depending on how powerful they are, you might want to consider them in your build.

Of course GTX 8XX should be better--it's coming out way after the 9XXX series.
