I have a old drive around 251 gb and I have no use for it so i thought i could make a NAS for my home. I would use it to store photos and other things like that. I may upgrade it one day, but 200 is fine for now.

what are some easy ways to do this.

It would be nice if i could access it from out of the house too.

  1. Put the drive in a computer you already have
  2. Set it up as a shared drive on your LAN
  3. Set it up as a shared FTP folder
  4. Use port forwarding on your router to forward traffic to a specific port to the FTP port on your computer
  5. Bingo, you can access the drive from anywhere (with a login)

Almost as cool as my temps

You can actually browse FTP sites through your browser, but all mobile OS' should have some 'FTP client' app available if you search for it.
