Currently I have the budget available to purchase a  GTX 980Ti. I want to game mostly on a 1080p monitor but sometimes I will use my 4K TV as a display for gaming (low to med settings). Please let me know what GPU I should get. (GTX 980Ti, GTX 970, R9 390/390X). The card I buy will be ran on an i5 4590 but let me know which cards will need a better CPU if I buy one or SLI/Crossfire them.

I use it about 20 hours a week watching media and I would like to incorporate my pc to play games about 15% of the time compared to 85% on monitors

I will most likely spend about 4 hours a week on my 4k tv STRICTLY ON GAMES and 15-20 hours on 1080p a week. The pc will also be used for media but I know that most gpus can run 4k video. Also my 4k tv is much larger making it a better option for media/video. But does screen size affect performance/fps or is it just the resolution that affects performance/fps?

then i wouldn't consider it just because of the little time ur going to be spending gaming on 4k, screen size doesn't really affect performance the pixels per square inch does that's why on 4k screen u can get 30 or 40fps while on 1080p u can reach up to 144fps (if monitor supports it) because of the pixel density

So a 970 would do? Also I know that a 144Hz monitor decreases screen tearing, but what if a GPU performs under 60fps. Would you still see smooth, reduced tear gameplay as it if were a 60Hz monitor? Also if the fps was above 60, would a 144Hz monitor be a bigger benefit over a 120Hz monitor?

If u are going to do that i would either take that one, or the R9 390, well between 30 fps and 60 fps it's decent but when under the 30 FPS it stutters a LOT and if u have the horsepower for it go with a 144Hz monitor this would give u more head room from the 60 fps border ;)

Also, look into freesync and gsync monitors :)

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

@DocSwag This is true i totally forget about that *dummy* , it depends on which GPU ur going to choose mostly the Freesync monitors are cheaper then their Gsync counterparts
