its just an AUX jack in, so I see no reason why it wouldn't work, but doesn't your mobo have onboard audio already?

I've had a similar issue with my laptop, the audio jacks don't work anymore, I tried reinstalling the drivers, and updating them, but it was of no use, audio via HDMI works perfectly fine, my first thought would be to uninstall and reinstall the audio drivers, and if that doesn't work, reinstall windows.

I have got exactly the same jack sort of thing for my computer and it works perfectly but its not a usb its a aux female in which caries audio that i plug my xbox mic into then it splits it and changes it into two diferent lines mic and audio... works fine

Yup that will work. I kind of want to get that USB to headphone adapter to see how it sounds. Only $6...

Yes, it should works. Though, first make sure you installed the latest audio drivers for the mobo.
