Will steam ban me for using a VPN?

Azade12

So im traveling to foreign countries and i used a friends credit card to buy a steam gift card online. Little did i know, steam changed my currency to something thats not familiar to me. Is it ok to use a vpn and connect to the US then use my US credit card to purchase a game to reset the currency back? Thanks!

If it was some other company, I'd say go for it and prove that you're really from US afterwards if necessary. But Steam is notorious for bad CS. I wouldn't risk it. Have your friend buy it in US and gift it to you or something.

for example youre on vacation, on another continent and you have your laptop with you. theres a new game coming out and you want to play it, so you buy it on steam. do you think theyre gonna ban you because of that? i dont think so...

I think so? I think the general rule of thumb if it costs more to buy in your country of origin it's OK.

If you used a vpn to buy something for a cheaper price eg Russia I think that is when they start getting pissy. I'm not really sure though

Isn't it the same price for each game no matter the currency? I often travel between the UK, France and Canada and when I converted the prices of games to £s from either Canadian Dollars or Euros I always found it was the same price as the British store... of course this may not be the same for all currencies.

Steam isn't very clear and concise about its policies and such, so I wouldn't bother risking the potential headaches, however unlikely they may be. If you want a definitive answer, then all I can say is: "Most likely not."
