So, I want to get a phanteks enthoo pro m, and the top and the side can support 2 140mm fans. there's only 1 140mm in the case itself. I have a 4690k and I'm going to overclock it to 4.5 or 4.4 ish.. and I have a cryorig cooler. My motherboard, Z97 SLI Krait can only support 3 case fans. Where should I install the fans? On the side? On the top? and which way should they be oriented?

Or, should I get a better case or a better motherboard that allows for more case fan connectors?

Yeah go for the s340. Has support for 1 140mm fan in the top, 1 120mm in the back and 2 140mm in the front. The case itself comes with 2 120mm fans, and a molex to 2 3pin fan splitter.

You could just get a fan splitter, couldn't you?

Tip to those that are new on LTT forum- quote a post so that the person you are quoting gets a notification, otherwise they'll have no idea that you did. You can also use a tag such as @Ryoutarou97 (replace my username with anyone's. You should get a dropdown after you type the "@")to send a notification, but quoting is preferable.

Feel free to PM me about absolutely anything be it tech, math, literature, etc. I'll try my best to help. I'm currently looking for a cheap used build for around $25 to set up as a home server if anyone is selling.

If you are a native speaker please use proper English if you can. Punctuation, capitalization, and spelling are as important to making your message readable as proper night theme formatting is.

My build is fully operational, but won't be posted until after I get a GPU in it and the case arted up.

the back part really confuses me. i know the nzxt s340 has 2 120mm in the front, but I don't know if the back has a place for a case fan

Front: 2x 140/2x120mm
Top: 1x 140/120mm (1 x 120mm FN V2 Fans Included)
Rear: 1x 120mm (1 x 120mm FN V2 Fan Included)

never mind, I found it

uhm.. i'm kinda new to pc building, what does a fan splitter do?

Takes a fan header and makes it into 2 or 3 or 8. for example, I have a silverstone 4-pin fan splitter that takes one 4-pin header on the motherboard (for PWM control) and a sata power cable (for power) in, and has 8 4-pin connectors out. So I only use up one header on the motherboard and get to use up to 8 fans. Pretty sure NZXT cases usually come with a 3-pin fan splitter glued in by the cable management area somewhere.

OHHH I see, do I really need to do that? how many fans do I actually need.. and I heard something about a molex connector on the s340 build guides, is that it?

Depends how good your chip is at OCing. If you got a good one, not too many. If you got a bad one it will give off a lot of heat at that speed, but still not too many. Adding more fans starts getting diminishing returns really fast.

The CPU cooler is the most important part, not the case fans. S340 probably has a molex -> fan splitter (2 fans with 3-pin connectors) so you can free up 2 motherboard connectors. I am a liquid cooling guy, so I can't say for sure how many you would need, though the included 2 case case fans would probably be enough, it can't hurt to add more. Give me a second to google the exact temperature benefits (data!) of extra case fans.

Google search pulled up pretty much exactly this thread on the PCPP forum, so here:

2 140's on intake in front and 2 120's on outtake would be pretty good positive pressure, so I would say it's a good idea. The case fans are pretty quiet, so if you get quiet fans the whole build might be near-silent. I haven't ever looked at the cooler so I'll leave that for someone else to answer. Maybe post about which CPU cooler is best at your price range?

how should I fit the 2 fans on the front? what way should the label be facing? I'm having trouble with that. there's already a cooler at the top and side panel..

Fans usually have on the side two perpendicular arrows with one pointing in the direction that the blades spin and one the way the air flows. If there isn't one, you can just start it up while holding the fan and feel which way the air blows.
