Hi guys,

So am planning to build a rig for some beginner to intermediate CAD work, ill be using autocad and revit a lot.

No plans on gaming.

I was wondering if seasonic 650W S12G ( A/80+ ) is a right PSU for these parts, if not could you guys give some suggestions.

CPU - Intel core i7 6700k

Mobo - Asus Z170M-E D3

Cooling - Corsair H80i GT hydro cooling

Graphics card - AMD FirePro w5100

RAM - kingston hyperx 16gb DDR3

Hi guys,

What budget what country? The xeon 1231v3 is pretty much always a better option, and that would let you get a better firepro card

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

My budget is under $2000.

I already got a monitor included in it and a UPS. So its kinda tight. ill be getting the stuff from Malaysia.

Well, I got no idea on part availability then, but look for a Xeon 1231v3 with an H97 board it should be a lot cheaper and is a really good value, otherwise buy a 5820K it doesn't cost much more than the 6700K in most places and is going to be a better choice

the skylake processors right now like aren't a good pick in most places I think it's only like Australia where the pricing is so close it doesn't matter

Alright, will look into it. Got any suggestions for PSU for the parts posted?

anything like 500W or above that's decent reviewed on a site called Jonnyguru

or Seasonic, Super Flower, and XFX are usually decent brands

I did use the corsair PSU calculator, am getting around 300W to 360W.(I know these results aint so accurate).

Do you think a 650W or a 750W PSU would be an overkill?

for a single card rig that isnt going to overclock, i'd say 450W is sufficient but getting a 500~550W is better, provided u get a reliable tier 1 or tier 2 power supply that have a good review on jonnyguru.com

Oh, so 6700k is not worth the money compared to the performance and price of a xeon 1231v3?

5820k is great, but again ill have to get a 2011v3 motherboard which adds cost.

As for the PSU i have decided to got with a seasonic x series gold 650W, from my research i think this would do fine.

The extra cost on the motherboard will easily be worth it, that way you have more CPU overhead, 2 more cores/4 more threads

if you're professionally doing CAD, the extra cores are worth it
if its just a hobby then its fine

basically
if you're into gaming AND CAD, go for the 6700K,
if you're just into CAD as a hobby, then Xeon (ECC support as bonus, provided u get a motherboard that supports it)
if you're going to use it a lot for CAD, a 5820k will be worth it as it will save u quite some time in the long run (unless rendering time is not an issue for you then Xeon is fine too)

Asus x99-a is the mobo i have decided to go with, seems like its pretty worth for the money.

Could you guys suggest some good GPU for CAD work.

and yeah one more thing, should i invest more on GPU or CPU?

Xeon E5 2620v3 is the one am currently doing my research on.
