let me know if this should be somewhere else but

ive got this setup right now

Intel I7 920 @ 2.67GHZ

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 Ti SSC 1GB

8GB Corsair Blue Vengeance RAM

6GB Random GSKILL RAM

Some Western Digital 1TB HDD

Ive been mostly working with CS:GO and recording is pretty good once I finetuned my OBS Settings

Im recording at 720p and I can provide more of my OBS settings if you guys want but i NEED YOUR HELP

I am required to upgrade to a 2GB GPU to play any newer games so a GTX 960 will come soon

but any most intensive games create framedrops and lag in recordings so im worried that my CPU may be the problem...

someone let me know if upgrading my GPU will also help recording issues or if my CPU needs to go aswell!

Recently Started a YT channel and am pursuing YT and Twitch with great dedication but dont ask for top of the line everything for my videos, just what i need to push out 720p for now!

thanks for any help you guys can provide

Its your GPU, have only 1GB of VRAM is really bad for pcs nowadays, average is 2 to 4GB (depends on what your use the gpu for) usually also you have an I7 you don't really need to upgrade for abit as they are pretty top of the line atm for CPUS.

As an FYI to @chriscow, if you think a topic should be put somewhere else, name your topic something appropriate to the post and then just hit the Report button(the triangle with the exclamation point) letting us know.

Awesome. In regards to your question, can you do some recording while gaming and monitoring VRAM usage? The CPU should be the primary component taking the load during recording. I would overclock your CPU as far as you reasonably can. Make sure you have a decent cooler mounted to the CPU.

Okay Godly Gamer, Those were my thoughts that the CPU would be taking the majority of the load. Lets Take ARK: Survival Evolved For example. Ive got all the minimum specs but frame rate drops like crazy and recordings are unwatchable. Guessing its my CPU though, would you recommend going online for an OC guide? I have no experience in that, only having built the computer myself.

You can get some help here from people who have experience with overclocking, especially the generation that you're using.

okay, last question then I guess, if i do decide to upgrade my CPU, Im running an MSI X58M MOBO and the Socket is is 1366 so Id be searching for an old CPU correct? since current ones are using different sockets, or id have to upgrade MOBO too, at which point im basically building a new rig :P

If you have the budget, I would avoid any CPUs from that generation and try to get something like Haswell or Skylake.

but then i dont have a MOBO that can fit those :(

I know. That means you would have to purchase a new board.
