I'm planning on installing a custom loop in an h440 and while planning, I couldn't think of a place I could put the pump/res. I realized I could mount it to a fan, but I wouldn't want to restrict airflow. Then I remembered the 4 empty drive bays I have. They have a bunch of holes in them, so I was wondering if I could use one of the empty slides to mount the pump/res combo.

What kind of pump res is it? I've mounted mine to the bottom fan location of my case right behind my front radiator. As long as there is a little space between the rad and the res, I don't see a round res blocking much airflow.

You can mount it anywhere you want if you are willing to get crafty and drill your own mounting holes.  Id make sure you've got room to remove the res cap for filing and such
