Hi,

im going to build a Pc.

But i have trouble with seecting the right videocard.

I want a 6700k cpu, because it is a great choice(as far as i know).

i'm going to plce it in a Z170 PC MAte, with 16 GB of ram(DDR 4)

but i have no idea what gpu i want to get.

i'm thinking of a 960, but it only has 2Gb of Vram.

any tips?

Are you building a gaming PC?

If so and you are on a tighter budget, it's a better idea to get a i5-6600k or even a locked i5-6400 (or 6500) if you are not going to overclock, get a cheaper motherboard and invest the saved money into buying a higher end GPU like a GTX 970/R9 390 or better.

There's the R9 380 in that price category and it offers better performance in most games, but the GTX 960 is slightly more power efficient and has features like Shadowplay, which is very useful if you are going to record gameplay. If you are looking solely for price per performance, I'd suggest the 380 4GB or 380X.

Shoot for a card with 4gb of VRAM. If you can stand to wait, the next line of GPUs is going to come out in a few months and will be super worth the wait.

im certsinly waiting for a couple of moths because i got exams in about 2 months.

my only concernnis that the new gpu's will cost a lot more then a gpu of this gen.

is my concern relevant or not?

I'm going to spend about1200€ so i guess i can afford the 6700k. Buti have a few months to save up more money so i have plenty timr to thjnk about it also km gonna be rendering stuff and ve multitasking so an i7 is a must for me

There will be tiered cards. Sure the 1080 will be expensive, but there will be a 960 equivalent

You should go for 6600k if you are gaming only and buy 390 or 970, maybe 980 or 980ti if it fits your budget.

The 960 is a terrible price to performance card. If you're buying in a few months you will likely find something significantly stronger for the price out of AMD when their 14 nm and 16 nm gpus come out. I know Nvidia would probably like to repeat what they did with the 900 series by holding out the GM 200 (Titan X and GTX 980 Ti) and GM 206 (GTX 960) chips as long as possible, but I think they'll be forced to release a 60 series card pretty early on in Pascal's lifetime too because of pressure from AMD.

Way too much CPU for not enough GPU IMO.

doesn't it create a bottleneck?

i have no experience building a pc, but i don't want a not so powerful cpu, because i do a lot of regular work, like video editing, and rendering. and also much multitasking.

I would, personally, step down to an 6600k and get a more powerful GPU - but if your usage will be more work oriented and not so much gaming, then that would be fine.

But maybe another option is going 6700 ($80 difference) save money on a non-OC board as well, and put that money towards the GPU. Unless you are keen on OC'ing.

if i build a pc with a 6700 and a gtx970

or a 6700k and a gtx 960(4GB) and i OC to 4.5 on the k.

Which will be faster when gaming, and which will be faster n a daily basis?

If the PC is only for gaming, get a 6600k and use the extra money on a 390 (Nitro or Gaming R from MSI) or a 970.

You wouldn't gain much (if any) performance from hyperthreading, since most games only support 4 cores.

the i7 6700k is to much of an overkill for the gtx 960 and... the gtx 960 is not that good of a card, get the r9 380 4GB or the r9 380x.

Do you really need the i7 6700k (do you need it for like video editing, etc.?). Yo can get great performance out of an i5 6500 with a b150 board and you can put the Money you saved towards a better GPU like the r9 390.

Basically any skylake tier i5 is going to give you the maximum performance you can achieve right now in games.

Going with an i7 should only be something people with a huge production load do, or someone with disposable income. It is an enthusiast chip and fairly overkill for gaming.

Honestly, it sounds like you don't know much about computers so my suggestion of just going with a locked i7 with the appropriate motherboard will give you plenty of wiggle room for a high end GPU. Which would make the best of both worlds in terms of production and gaming.
