Heyoo,

Somehow, the transistor (I think it's a transistor) C681 came off my GPU (780Ti), not sure what it does, card runs fine without it.

Just wondering if anyone knows what that particular one does?

A transistor would not be visible by the naked eye. A capacitor maybe?

I'm not 100% on what they're called, little brown thing with metal on each end, don't think it's a capacitor or resistor but I could be very wrong.

I actually don't know :/

You need someone with superior knowledge than me

I'm afraid that's not possible.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

Maybe that's a VRM. Try and contact your AIB partner (OEM of the card).

RMA chances are out the window, it shows signs of physical damage (solder has been torn instead of melted), no freaking idea how it happened but it's off now.

That is a capacitor, more specifically, it's the 681st capacitor on the board

without knowing the value, it's gonna be bloody difficult to find and as it's SMT and so small, the chances of a successful repair are next to none

Now we know! GPU runs fine without said capacitor but, it is a concern that it is off. My soldering iron isn't small enough to get in there to fix it, even with a juryrigged paperclip attachment.

just be careful, i have no idea what the capacitor actually regulates in this case, but it wouldn't be out of the question that it can cause instabilities, likely when under heavy load

That was my first thought, so, like the idiot I am, I went and ran a few benchmarks on max settings. Works like a charm. Seems happy in SLI too.

fair enough, loosing one component, especially a small one is often tolerable, if it's a small capacitor the capacitance it going to be so tiny it probably won't matter. Keep an eye on 'er, but it should purr away nicely

Given the warranty is shot because of something on my part (idiocy no doubt), I was considering attempting to reattach the cap, since I still have it.

You should try anyways by saying it was manufacturing fault.

don't. for one, it's very small and SMT, so unles you can get the solder under the pads you won't be able to, the other thing is that capacitors absolutely hate being run in reverse bias (installed backwards), should it be installed backwards and go pop, there is a high chance of damage to other components downstream. If it works as it is, let it be. Keep the cap.

Noted. Due to the way it came off, I know exactly how it reattaches. Given it works, I'll leave it for the time being. Thanks for the advise anywho :)

no problem. if you send me a picture of the cap (as focused and high quality as possible) i may be able to discern some details on it

This is the best I can provide. Camera is from a cellphone, don't own anything fancier.
