hi have a question. just lost my hp mobo a few days ago replaced it with a gigabyte ga-b75m-d3h.  currently using a amd radeon hd 7570 and am wondering what I might be able to upgrade to for less than 200 bucks. using a 400w psu and an intel i7 2600 @ 3.4 GHz cheapie 1330 ram from Samsung 16gb. first time builder here as well, just want something to call my own. thanks for any and all help. thinking of an MSI N750TI-2GD5/OC G-SYNC Support GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Video Card

First thing how did you lose a motherboard, personally get better PSU and a SSD. A 500-600 watts should be enough for any GPU today and should last you for a few years.

HP's power supplies are actually fairly decent, i've "reviewed" the guts of one of them a while back, and while they look pretty nasty, they do have a 90% efficiency rating and some other industry standard things about quality.

Not all prebuilts are created equal. My money's still on the PSU not being great.

Eh. In that case, I'd say whatever his budget on the PSU dictates will dictate the card.

Seeing that you're new to the forum, here's a pro tip: quote people so it gives more context as to what you're replying to.

550 watts sounds like plenty. I've seen builds with AMD cards that have sub-400w psu's

I know. I don't think OP has said what PSU he might get though.

I have heard of issues with this psu. but it was all the local computer repair shop had on hand. then I come to find the mobo was the original issue. it was a refurb h8 1240t so no telling what it went through before I got it.
