Hey guys, so I really hate to double post, but I need a KVM Switch.

I made a thread yesterday, but not a single person commented. :/

I need help finding a KVM Switch that I can plug at least 4 computers in.

So one monitor, keyboard, and mouse, that controls 4 computers.

I would love to have a switch that can do up to 8 computers.

But I got a few questions about KVM Switches...

What are those KVM Switches that have the 8 VGA Ports, the 8 PS/2 Keyboard Ports, and the 8 PS/2 Mouse Ports?
Also, what are those KVM Switches that have nothing but Ethernet Ports?

Wouldn't I only need like, 8 DVI Connectors (or VGA) and 2 USB Ports?

Would I need a KVM Switch that has 8 Ethernet Ports? How would that work?

Can someone please help me out here :/

There aren't a lot of people here that are familiar with stuff like that. I've used a few KVMs but only 2 port ones. I would suggest that you ask on a forum that has a few more IT professionals on it like TekSyndikate

Not sure they exist....normally things like that are done through some sort of network with thin clients and stuff

I doubt there are many traditional KVM switches for like 8 PCS

I've messed ever so slightly with KVMs, but not enough to completely understand what I need to buy, I've only worked with them :P

But yeah. I don't have an account with them, but it may be worth doing if I can't find my answer here.

A switch that can do 4 would be fine, that's all I need, but having the OPTION to run 8 if I needed, would be nice.

Connect all 8 PCs to a network

Use one PC to control the other 7 via remote desktop

That's probably your best bet - Tek Syndicate is much better at tackling the more esoteric, enterprise-grade solutions.

I mean, that's plausible, but not exactly what I'm looking for. I feel like that wouldn't be ideal for my purpose.

It's going to be used for as a computer building station, plug up one, start imaging, and build the second, start imaging. I would want to be able to monitor each pc as I so desire.

I just had a quick look. You can get 8 Port switches with VGA and PS2 for around 100€ here. I've got no idea if they're any good. Your safest bet would be TekSyndicate

$400 unfortunately

Aten KVMs ain't cheap, but they sure as hell are good (at least the ones I've had contact with are)

For $70 you can get http://www.aten-usa.com/products/KVM/Cable-KVM-Switches/4-Port-USB-KVM-Switch~CS64US.html#.Vqt_P5p96Hs but not really sure how good it is

Here's a list of 4-port KVMs from Aten. Might be tired enough to not find the 8 port ones, though: link nvm the link breaks. just filter out for KVM switches and number of ports on their website

I work with this crap on a daily basis. Came in knowing squat about a lot of hardware that is pretty much pro-sumer or business oriented and now I can list odd-ball crap off the top of my head.

I find that on Tek Syndicate, the hosts of the show like Logan, Wendell and Qain are a lot more active in the community than the members of LMG are on here, so... You may want to message Wendell and Qain directly for help with KVMs. If they see you on there and answer your questions personally, then that's like, gospel. Probably the best advice you can get.

Heres the KVM that I have used in the past. Its a 4 device with 1 VGA and 2 usb. You really have to go to a more enterprise grade solution to get more devices. Or I guess you could theoretically chain multiple together using one setting on the first as the input into the second. I don't know what you need for connections but it seems that most are VGA with some usbs with a few also including headphone and microphone connections.
