Make sure the monitor is on the right input. I've used a couple monitors that won't switch automatically. 

 

Just the other day I had to connect my monitor to my server via VGA to set a few things up and for a minute I thought I had gotten a defective board since I was getting no signal (I just had to manually switch inputs).

I tried switching inputs even using both hdmi ports on both monitors

Are all the ports on the same motherboard or GPU?

it did not work any suggestions?

Remove the GPU and try it with the GPU removed.
