I am disassembling a 10 year-old laptop, and came to the conclusion that, if I want the parts intact, I probably need an ESD strap. But where do I buy an ESD strap? Are the £2 ones on Google shopping legit?

I know that an ESD strap isn't essential, but it's a plastic laptop. You can't ground yourself on the case.

I've taken apart multiple laptops without an ESD strap.

Many times on carpet as well.

Honestly, just do it on wooden floors and don't excessively touch the components. Really not worth buying an ESD strap imo

Anything plugged into the wall will ground you as long as it has a metal body, even something as simple as a lamp. Just touch it periodically to keep yourself discharged.
