Headphones Help?

Go to solution Solved by byalexandr,

Fixed it, installed Realtek drivers and there was an option in the HD Audio Manager. Sounds better too.

I want to use my headset since my 290 is quite loud and I don't want to turn up my speakers with it being so late. The problem is the headphones don't automatically become the speakers, similar to how your phone mutes the loudspeaker and pumps the sound to your earbuds. So GTA V is still playing through my home theater system instead of my headphones even though they are plugged into the headphone jack.

Any idea how I can set this up?

Go into the Window Sound and Audio Preferences and choose your onboard as the default.

Open your game and check that the default audio device is selected.

Onboard? I have my sound system plugged into my rear audio (the onboard audio on the mobo) and it's set as default. Windows even recognizes that my headphones are plugged into the front panel.

You can change the default audio output in the Windows sound options. Or, you can just turn off your home theatre system.

But if I then unplug the headset will it revert back to my sound system as the default device?

Edit: Nope it won't. I have to revert back manually.

You should still do what SSL said. You can swap between sources that way. Just set every program to use your "Default Device", then in the Sound panel click on whatever output you want to use for your audio, and make it your default device.

That's odd. I have my speakers hooked up to the rear audio output, and I plug in my headphones to the front panel headphone jack. The speakers mute and the headphones receive audio; and when I unplug them it reverts back to the speakers.

But can I have it so it operates like a phone would? Would I need that Realtek Suite to do that?

That's exactly what I want. But it's not working that way and people just keep telling me to switch it manually which is dumb.

Yeah I know what you mean but Windows is funky when it comes to stuff like that. Sometimes it'll change, sometimes it won't. At least for me. It's supposed to, in theory, switch to whatever source that's not disabled when something is unplugged.

Do you have any sound utilities installed? I can't remember what software it was for (Realtek, I think) but it had an option to have audio play out of all outputs no matter what. You could try reinstalling your audio drivers and seeing if that fixes it. Are you on Windows 10? Try right-clicking the volume and troubleshoot sound problems.

I don't. I suppose I can update them with Realtek drivers. The Windows 10 Troubleshooter didn't do anything.
