is there any benefit running a larger heat sink on your cpu?

Yes, it runs at lower temperatures so it allows for overclocking and the bigger the heat sink the slower the fans have to spin which reduces noise.

bigger the heatsink the better heat dissipation which equals lower temps and lower fan speeds which equals happy cpu and happy ears

No, heat rises. That's why the bigger the heatsink above your CPU, the more heat can be dissipated.
