Which Budget Pc?

Go to solution Solved by moderategamer,

Im looking for a Pc for my mum. I was given this http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/CJVc23 as a recomendation but am unsure as cpu is dual core. I was thinking more like http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/v8FGK8 as is quad core but no igpu

Thanks,

Ish

For the type of things your mum is likely to use the computer for a dual core is fine I would get the g3258 and give it a slight OC to around 4.2Ghz it will be plenty snappy enough for the type of things your average mum does on a PC.

ps not saying your mum is average she's a real nice lady ;)

Well, what's she gonna do with it? Chances are she won't need a quad core.

Also, that pre-built seems like a decent deal. Just keep in mind that the PSU is probably absolute garbage.

At your budget look at prebuilts as the companies generally price them cheaper than it is to build one!

the i3 would be faster in any case

This.

Just because it's a quad core doesn't mean that it's more powerful. And just because the i3 is a dual core doesn't mean that it's weak. I've got an i3 in one of my computers and it has managed to crush every task I have thrown at it. The i3 system will easily beat the Athlon in everything except a few very specific tasks (namely games that lock out dual cores).

That prebuilt is a very good deal as well, with the exception of Windows 8.1. <_<  As mentioned, the PSU may also be garbage so find on from a reputable brand name and drop it in.

OP picked 8.1 for the others as well. Also, the free upgrade is still on, right?

Didn't notice the OS on the prebuilt, and yes I believe the free upgrade is still going on.
