Hello,

Specs out of the way:Z97X-SLI, 4690k

In an attempt to update my motherboard BIOS from f7 to f9, I downloaded the f9 BIOS off of the gigabyte website for my motherboard model, opened the folder, and uncompressed it. Upon doing this I closed all of my applications and tried to run the executable. At this point command prompt opened up and it says that it is an unsupported 16 bit application. Am I doing something wrong or do I have the wrong BIOS?

Thanks.

I believe a 16-bit application would require to run in DOS.

So I guess you'll have to update it either straight from your BIOS (consult your manual) or create a bootable DOS pendrive and update it from DOS. Both options are actually preferable, rather than updating it from Windows.

I would take the BIOS file that was created during the extraction process, and use that to directly update the BIOS without being inside of Windows.

Glad i built mine so I still have my manual.

Would flashing the BIOS be an option?

The motherboard manual only gives a guide on flashing. It isn't much of a guide, it basically says "get a utility you scrub"

Yeah, that's what I meant when I said to update it.

Okay wish me luck.

I shall pray to the Flying Spaghetti Monster that this process is successful.
