Alright I know this probably isnt the best forum for this but its off topic and you guys are really smart here so I thought why not.

 

But would it be a good idea to plasti dip a metal key, like the whole key, or could that screw things up in the lock, ignition cylinder, or whatever I'm using it for?

the plastic would probably shave off in the lock and gum it up, I wouldn't do it

The Plasti-Dip would just come off anyways when inserting the key.

Do not palst-dip a key your going to gunk up your lock cylinder, it's just a rubber coating so it lacks abrasions and contact pressure like paint or plating can handle. You can coat the handle part or get a cover for it alternatively.
