Delete Thumbdata file on android phones

It will just be recreated. No point in removing it. And from what I can tell, deleting it doesn't actually free up any space.

I am wondering if anything bad will happen if I delete my thumbdata file in my DCIM/.tumbnails folder on my phone. It takes up 7 gb and I'm not sure what it does, I looked it up and there arent any complete answers for its purpose. Does anybody have any experience deleting this file.

Yes, it's just a folder (not file) of thumbnails.  You can delete it

it does.  His is an ungodly 7 GB, so it ought to free up about 7 GB of space

Every time I've ever felted it, no space has been freed. I think it's just a marker, and doesn't actually use any space.

Your right, i just deleted it and no new space was created.

 

The actual thumbnails take up only 28 mb.

have you looked inside?  There are actual image files.  Like. JPGs.  Those take up space, space that can be freed if they are deleted :)
