Hi, I currently have a Amd 8150 and an Asus Evo motherboard in a Cooler Master Elite 430. I think I'm going to buy a Intel 4670k and put it in a Gigabyte H87-HD3 Motherboard and put that in an Aerocool x-predator evil full tower case. I'm going to use the rest of my parts in the system I have now in my new build.

I was wondering what other people think of this?

There isn't any point upgrading from AMD to Intel with your CPU, not to mention that you have selected a "K" skew CPU with a H87 motherboard which would not allow you to overclock to the full potential. The CPU you currently have should last you a few years and the money could be spent on something that would actually give you a satisfactory performance increase such as a graphics card or if you desire, a sound card. You will not see any performance increase if you upgrade your CPU and motherboard.

I might posibly get a 4770 but i havent decided yet, I have a MSI GTX 570 twin frozr 3 and my PSU is a xfx 850 watt

Just list all your specs so we can see what you should actually upgrade.

What are you using the system for?

I have 16Gb (4x4) of ram

A GTX 570

AMD 8150

Hyper Evo 212

Asus Evo motherboard

1Tb hard drive

Standard optical drive

CM 430 case

850 watt PSU

I think that's it and I'm using my system for a bit of editing and general use but mostly gaming.

I'm not spending all my money on a graphics card especially when it is over my budget.

If you don't want to spend a lot of money don't try changing platforms to an Intel system because you'll get little performance benefits for the money you spend

For your case scenario there are three possible upgrades you can do without spending too much money

  • new graphics card
  • upgrade to a FX-8320 or FX8350
  • get an SSD

Is there anyway to transfer windows onto an SSD without having to rein-stall windows? Also what graphics card should i get for about £200?

Some SSD's come with cloning software that allows you to transfer your OS to the SSD without any problems just check the SSD manufacturer website to know if they have any cloning tool

Graphics Cards (Look at Radeon HD7850, HD7870, HD7950 or GTX670, GTX760, GTX770 that fit your budget)

It's the only worthwhile upgrade other than a ssd.

The Samsung 840 comes with software to clone your hdd although I prefer a clean install of Windows myself.

Okay so say i bought a SSD and did a fresh install of windows would I need to buy another copy of windows or would I be able to reuse the one I have?

Call microsoft and see if they can renew your code. It should generally work but it's no guaranteed if you have an oem copy.
