Idea: Magnetic keyswitches and joysticks?

iamdarkyoshi

Just a completely random idea I had. Why not have a magnet pull an analog joystick to the middle instead of a spring and a flat piece of plastic? Seems like it would probably make it feel a little smoother.

Also, I wonder what would happen if you used magnets in a mechanical keyswitch? Perhaps have the magnets latch together when the key is up, and pressing the key requires a hard activation force at the start, and then it gets easier to press as it is pushed down? Why not reverse it, and have the magnets oppose each other, using them as a spring. It would be non-linear, so the farther you press it, the harder it is to push.

Just an interesting idea I had. Feel free to comment on your thoughts here!

I think the keyswitches would either be too easy to accidentally press due to the non lineairity and when you take stronger magnets the typing I would think become pretty tiring.

As for the joystick I dunno might be nice to have.

The darkyoshi board. It'll be the new mechanical keyboard. Sounds like a cool idea

That would require magnets. Magnets are pretty expensive, and they don't last forever. Putting your keyboard down on the desk would make the magnets lose a tiny bit of their charge.

Let's not get too scientific. Keyboard failure due to the magnets "is just the price you have to pay for a premium keyboard." When in reality it's just to make more $$
