Mic headset combo not working.

I am trying to set up an origin voice chat with my friend and I am using headphones with a mic in the cable. But when I plug it in to the headset jack it cannot detect my mic. And if I plug it into the mic jack it can see my mic but it cannot pickup any sound even with the gain turned up and doesn't detect my headphones. Any of you have this issue? My headset is the Logitech ue4000.
