So basically I'd like to know if there's a better solution for upgrading with similar amount of money?

At the moment I have 2x4 GB of Transcend RAM and a WD Blue 1TB that I won't be changing, and the plan is:

AMD FX-8300 + CM 212 EVO so that I can OC to 4.0-4.2 GHz I guess?

ASUS M5A97 R2.0

GTX 960 or R9 380

I'd like to know what you guys think about my choice for the CPU, I don't think I can afford an Intel one.. and the GPU I don't know what's better. I've seen people say that you should get R9 380 over the GTX 960 but I don't know the reasons? Does it depend on what my PC is meant for? Btw I am building a PC mainly for gaming, mostly CSGO and League of Legends, but I'd like to be able to run GTA V and some other newer titles decently.

Thanks for the quick response, but does this mean that it's worth sacrificing the cpu to get a better gpu for gaming (FX-8300 vs i3-4170)? And I don't plan on changing memory nor storage so I was thinking about spending around 500$ for Mobo, GPU, CPU, maybe cpu cooler and a new PSU. Does that affect things if I don't plan on buying the whole pc, just the mentioned parts? And do you think I need a 4GB version of the R9 380 or is the 2GB enough?

The i3-4170 performs the same in games as the FX-6300 and comes very close to the 8350. If you're only buying those parts, why didn't you just say?

Thanks for the suggestion, again I'd like to ask you aswell since you suggested AMD CPU which is a lot cheaper than intel i5-4460 that was mentioned why should i bother spending so much more on intel cpu with such similar specs as the AMD you mentioned?

Yes you should.

Since you have 80 more bucks of wiggle space, going with a 4460 is going to get you stability and better framerate in games.

I would suggest swapping out the motherboard i have chosen as well as the cpu.
