Hey all, so I'm building my own PC, but I have no idea how to install, or even buy windows, and what it all means, if anyone could explain this to me I would be very grateful. Many thanks, SteamedCabbage. I would like either windows 8.1, or Windows 10

Windows 10 Media Creation Tool: https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

Use the provided link to download the Windows 10 ISO file to make a boot-able USB that you can use to install on your system.. You should keep this USB safe in case you need it again.

To buy a windows copy -> you can just go to a retailer and buy a windows copy which means you are going to get a key that will allow you to activate your windows :)

What I would suggest is to go with windows 10. You may have heard that windows 7 and 8.1 users will get the update to windows 10 for free, so choose the cheapest windows version (7,8.1 and 10) you can get and if you have 7 or 8.1, just upgrade to windows 10. Another thing, windows always comes in different versions, if you are a normal user the Home edition should be just fine.

Hi again, I have downloaded the windows ten ISO onto my USB, but it says that I need a product key, where can I buy/find this product key??

You can install without one and use it free for 30 days. If you sign up to the Microsoft Insider Program you get it free forever (as long as you keep testing beta patches and updates).

To get a key you can use G2A or Kinguin to get a cheap key but these are grey market site, also Reddit software swap can get you a key for cheap too and is generally much more reliable than a grey market website, failing that any PC shop will sell you a key for full retail price.
