external drive reader 3.5 to 2.5 adapter

McCloud

I've got something like this for laptop 2,5 drives.. In case I wanted to backup a PC 3,5 drive, is it possible to connect it in some way through this ?

I doubt it, but one never knows these days... or is it just cheaper (and easier) to buy a separate 3,5 drive to USB adapter..

Ok, I didn't realize 3,5 and 2,5 drives have the same connector (like here) - it's a very long time I haven't opened a PC case :P

But I am pretty sure the bigger 3,5 drives use direct power input from the PSU right ? And the 2,5 adapter is only powered via USB (via the SATA connector itself).

How would that work out ?

That won't work. 3.5'' drive requires more power than you get from USB. You need to get external dock with own power supply.
