Help with modmic not working

My new modmic 4.0 unidirectional is not working. I am using an msi a88x g-45 motherboard and the latest realtek hd audio manager driver. My modimic is showing up both in realtek and in recording devices. It is also showing that its picking up audio and i can hear the microphone playback in the driver application. but i am not picking up audio in skype test calls or any of my games. Any suggestion can help thanks.

did you select it as the mic in skype?

is it the default communication device in windows sound settings?
