New PC build

Go to solution Solved by Chairdolf_Sitler,

Okay, I did some changes, and I have this set:

CPU: Intel Cire i5 4460 (I have it)

Motherboard: MSI H97I AC

GPU: MSI Radeon R9 390

RAM: Kingston HyperX Beast 2x8GB DDR3

PSU: Corsair RM650i

Monitor : ASUS MG279Q

Case: Corsair Obsidian 250D

CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i

HDD: Western Digital 1TB WD10EZEX (I have it)

SSD: Samsung 850 PRO 256GB

As you can see, I changed the Motherboard and RAM, upgraded the SSD, and settled with my current CPU. This way I got enough money to afford ASUS MG279Q, a 1440p FreeSync monitor. But I have a few questions:

1. What PSU can you recommend that is reliable, can handle this rig, and doesn't cost as much as Corsair RM650i?

2. Is there a big difference for gamers between 8GB and 16GB of RAM? If not, then I'll stay with my current HyperX Fury 2x4GB kit.

3. Would you recommend any other Mini-ITX Motherboard that is good enough for this rig and costs less than H97I AC from MSI? Built-in WiFi is a must.

Before you ask, I don't want to change to Micro-ATX or ATX. Mini-ITX box was something I wanted for a long time, and I won't change my plans. Call me stubborn, this is how I want it to be. But if you know of any Mini-ITX case with similiar style as Obsidian 250D (meaning polished, aluminum front and clean looks, like Define R5) then let me know.

Do you think this set is good, if not, what would you change?

Case: Corsair Obsidian 250D

PSU: Corsair RM650i

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170N-WIFI

CPU: Intel Core i5 6600K

GPU: Gigabyte Radeon R9 390

CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i

SSHD: Seagate ST2000DX001

SSD: Kingston HyperX Savage 240GB

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2x8GB DDR4

Monitor: BenQ GW2765HT

Mouse: Feenix Nascita

Keyboard: Feenix Autore

Headphones: Feenix Aria

Amplifier: Schiit Vali 2

Thanks for any suggestions :)

Finally someone who knows the brand Feenix ^^.

If you can get the Samsung 850 EVO 250GB. Get a cheaper PSU like the XFX 650W PSU for $72 US on PcPartPicker.

Overall nice build.

That Gigabyte R9 390 should be swapped out for a different variant other than ASUS.

XFX, Powercolor, Sapphire and MSI are all good options. Other than that, looks great.

'Fanboyism is stupid' - someone on this forum.

Be nice to each other boys and girls. And don't cheap out on a power supply.

I know Feenix from Linus' "Pimp my conference room" video :) I looked at their products, I looked at some reviews, and I love every freakin' bit of it.

Why is that? I feel like there isn't much difference between these cards, so I looked more at their aesthetics. I am going for a simple, dark style without flashy MSI red and yellow of some other brand I saw

Country - Sweden, though I wil be buying it in Polish store, due to lower price and the fact that my previous PC was also bought there and there were no problems, so I trust them.

Budget - 6500 zł, which is about 1650$ that is for the PC, peripherals not included.

Games - I love big FPS, so I rarely play some very demanding games right now. I currently play Team Fortress 2, and Skyrim from time to time. Once I get the new PC I plan on playing Battlefront, GTA V, Witcher III, Fallout 4, and CS:GO

The Sapphire and MSI GPU's has one of the best cooling solutions for AMD GPU's. You could go for the Sapphire GPU because its black/Dark Grey colored. The XFX is also a very good and reliable card like the Sapphire and MSI that's why many people go for the Sapphire/MSI/XFX GPU's because of their quality and reliability.

I checked MSI, Powercolor, XFX and Sapphire ones, and only MSI R9 390 fits into Obsidian 250D (max 290mm)

Other than the red colour, I'd actually choose MSI over Gigabyte, because I have MSI R9 270 right now and it performs very well.

also a free-sync display if possible instead of all that above.

What's this rig? Other than the GPU, it's almost identical in performance to my current set. I want an upgrade, not a sidegrade

Wait is your current rig listed in the OP? If that's identical than your current rig is fine and I'd invest in a solid 4k display

You can see it on my profile.

4K is too demanding on the GPU for my taste, I'd rather have a 1080p or 1440p display. And I really want a Mini-ITX build, it's a matter of preference.

well the Xeon is hyperthreaded so it's effectively an i7 with no iGPU

in addition you could just buy an ITX board and be well off, maybe upgrade your GPU to a 390 and get a 1440p free-sync display in that case, and then you'd be set Although you'd need a new PSU for the 390 potentially, unless you were to jump into the nano which can fit into basically any ITX case

the Elite 130 ITX case can house large GPUs without much issue

Skylake is hardly an upgrade, it's only 5% faster per clock, and all it really gives you is USB 3,1

Asus' cards are awful, I'd know my friend, 750ti ASIC quality: 68% GTX 970 ASIC Quality: 67% anything below 70% Should be RMA'd

Type C!

I don't think the average person needs the transfer speeds that provides, and in addition there are also add on cards to add it once it's actually more wide spread down the line, or by that time intel's new socket is going to be out anyways

And DDR4...

DDR4 adds nothing for the average consumer, it's really only more important in mobile devices, and for servers as they get way more memory per blade now.

Also that board appears to only support USB 3 speeds over it's Type C connector

I will buy a dedicated SSD + a HDD.

SSHD woo? SS bit = 7.92 GB HDD = actual storage!
