Hello LTT,

I currently own Sennheiser HD 558 paired up with my ModMic and connecting to my sound card, Creative Sound Blaster Z.

It is an amazing but once my little bro move into my room and my buddies on TS keep freaking yelling which it is loud.

Which I get blamed by my parent, so I decide to get a new headphone.

I use it to play CS:GO, and I don't know if there is any neutral sound closed-ear headphone.

My budget is probably under $200 bucks.

By the way, is it worth buying a gaming headset or I should just stick with getting a new headphone?

Well it seems like you'll want closed headphones since it sounds like you're getting yelled at because of the sound leakage.

Beyerdynamic DT 770s are supposed to be great. Audio-Technica ATH-M50xs seem to get mixed recommendations around this forum. People that have them seem to recommend them, and people that don't say they stink for playing games. Someone else should be able to pitch in some suggestions.

Your Modmic should be fine though if you go for just new headphones.

If you really want a new headset, I'd go for the HyperX Cloud 2.

It can't be beaten. That's my opinion.

but his current headphone is way better then the clouds, why would he downgrade?

@Ryou-kun what kind of sound signature do you prefer?

For that budget I would suggest getting the PSB M4U1 and a Vmoda BoomPro. The Audio-Technica MSR7 or NAD HP50 may work as well, but I don't think they offer as much soundstage.

Edit: Forgot that they are $250 new, but you can often find them used for under $200.

I do prefer Neutral sound, so I can use my sound card to customize it and be flexible for it. After all, my headphone is Neutral unless there are better options for it.

For Beyerdynamic DT 770s, does the earpad leak sound?

I mean, that is one thing I want to avoid if I am trying to turn up my volume to listen TS chat or in-game sound otherwise I get yelled at because of it.

it shouldn't since it's closed back unless your maxing them out or something.

Closed is not prefered for gaming, I would look at the DT 990 Pro (if you like a lot of treble and bass at the expense of the highs) preferably, I would look at the Fidelio X2's which have gone on sale in the past for $200 may have to wait on those.

The OP is seeking out a pair of closed back headphones to replace his open back pair. Open back headphones aren't ideal for his situation.

Well, open-ear is definitely better but it isn't great when you are alone in a quiet surrounding.

That is why I want a closed-back headphone, so it doesn't leak and get yelled at. It may not be the best, but it is better than getting yelled while I am trying to clutch, lol.

Personally i thibk my dt880 sound a bit too much tincan in csgo.

I'd have said get a k7xx equivalent since i like it better in cs but you want closed.

I guess dt770 is your best bet, i hope it sounds better in cs.

And for DT 770, there is a closed back version with a M....

The M version is highly sound isolating at the cost of sound signature/quality. That's an option. The 80 or 250 ohm versions would be good as well. Beyerdynamic sells leatherette pads if you want more sound isolation.

I see. Hmm, I guess I will go for 250 ohm one.

By the way, 250 ohm is more of neutral sound, right?

This would be a good read.

But generally having a higher impedance headphone allows for high enough dampening factor, usually (headphone) 8:1 (source).

It doesn't make it sound "better" rather it's about having the headphone sound "proper", depending on your source.
