Ok, someone can recommend good NAS for 150-200$

HDD, non-SSD... i don't thing for NAS i need SSD, at less for now

Or use my old system, but bought for it Sata controller ?

What capacity do you need?

Also, are you aware that 2 HDDs are going to cost like... 50-75% of that budget, depending on capacity?

With your price point it is better to get something prebuilt like WD has to offer.

Around $350 onwards on a budget would then a NAS build make more sense.

You don't really need enterprise-grade HDs to a home NAS that's going to run 1-2 drives.

Get a WD MyCloud drive or something like that: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VJYTBME/ref=psdc_13436301_t2_B00RX87LJK

If you want a beefier one, especially if you don't need any redundancy.

The problem usually with old systems is that they do not have enough sata ports.

But if he has a decent one with 2 he could get the drives first and implement the NAS at a seperate occasion.

But as of now, a full NAS rig is impossible with that budget, is what i am saying.

Atom/Celeron motherboards are also a nice solution. :P

Especially this one: http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Atom/X10/A1SA7-2750F.cfm

But that's WAY over the alloted budget. :P

1GB of RAM per 1TB of ZFS array + overhead for FreeNAS. It's not an overkill by any means, especially if the array will be expanded in the future. As far as 430W CX is concerned - take into consideration that CX is a shitty PSU, I'd rather go with something better and more efficient.

Face it. You have 200$ for the entire thing. You don't have any wiggle room here. You won't build a NAS for $200. If you have any disks, you can use this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Synology-Station-Diskless-Attached-DS215j/dp/B00OZ0CTAU/ref=lp_13436301_1_8?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1453306346&sr=1-8

If you don't, try this:

http://www.amazon.com/Synology-DiskStation-Diskless-Private-DS214se/dp/B00FWURI8K/ref=lp_13436301_1_16?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1453306346&sr=1-16

If you want more expandability (however, I don't have ANY experience whatsoever with that device, so it's your own risk):

http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Diskless-Network-Attached-STCU100/dp/B00LM6LIDO/ref=sr_1_28?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1453306528&sr=1-28&keywords=4-bay

They're not the greatest out there, they won't work wonders, but they will work.

Network Attached Storage ain't cheap.

Hey there Tedol,

I can suggest that you check what WD has to offer and see if any of the solutions meet your needs and budget. It would really depend on how many drive bays, how much storage space, what RAID type (if any) and what purpose are you looking to use the NAS for.
