Xeon E5-1620v3 Overclockable?

Strom

I know that e5-1650v3 is overclockable and people say that E5-16xx are all overclockable? Are they all and especially is e5-1620v3?

I'm Linus too. (:

But why? Unless you already own one, I'd just spend ever so slightly more to get a 6 core that you know for sure will overclock (5820K)

you can only overclock xeons and non k skus by adjusting the base clock, and it will not go very far as linus discovered in this video:

I thought you could only OC the base clock with Xeons?

Xeon x5... Are all known for their awesome overclocks and best bang/buck ratio because people sell used ones for around 30€. Also e5-1650, 1650v2, and 1650v3 are all unlocked. People get stable 4.6Ghz oc:s with those cpu:s and it is good option for price of i7-5930k. And the reason why i want Xeon is because they produce less heat than i7:s and i can make a server from it later.

@harrynowl I believe he's got at least 1 e5-16xxvx OC'd to hell and back

I know the 1620 and 1620V2 are overclockable, don't have any info on V3, but given that the 1650V3s are overclockable I'd say it's a pretty safe assumption to assume the same. I don't see the point in buying a quad though.

They binned better than i7 extremes because they're validated for 24/7, and with a supporting chipset you can run ECC and stuff- you just can't run 2P configs on the 16xx series you'd need to buy a 2xxx series.

E5 1620v3 is a 4 core cpu with 10mb of l3 cache. Much less than a 5820k which is a 6 core with 15mb of l3 cache. Yes most xeon e5 1600s are unlocked just like their k parts. My 1650 v3 is unlocked and can oc up to 4.7ghz. Currently running at stock, cause i'm still running my ancient psu, and i don't want to break it.

I consider e5-1620v3 because it's 110€ cheaper than i7-5820k. Are any of e5-2xxxvx series cpus overclockable?

Xeon E5 2600s v3 are overclockable but only through base clock (BCLK), unlike the Xeon E5 1600s v3 where you can overclock via the multiplier. Most I got out of my Xeon E5 2620 v3 was 105 on the BCLK. Set to 106 BCLK and the system will freeze. The other thing is, they won't support XMP on rams. Max is whatever the cpu supports, which is either 1866MHz or 2133MHz. Get 2400MHz or 3000MHz, and it drops down to one of those 2 speeds.
