So for some background I have had windows 10 for half a year or so. One of the first things I did was I set my connection to metered so that Windows could not perform automatic updates. My download speed is 1mb/s when I'm lucky and windows downloading updates makes everything that uses internet unusable as it eats up all my bandwidth. Setting the connection to metered has worked for me before, but it doesnt anymore. Today I signed into the windows store for the first time to download an app to play .flv videos. Anyways after logging in I noticed that my internet got immedialty unusable. I restarted my pc and out of no where a login screen popped up before I got to the desktop. (It always just booted to the desktop before). This is annoying but not the big issue. The issue is that even though my connection is set to metered Windows is still downloading updates. I cant find a way to remove my windows account from my pc, and how to stop windows from downloading updates. I really dont understand why simply singing into the microsoft store would cause all of this.

You set up a Microsoft account, it is now syncing everything with the cloud.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

Kill the windows update process

How would I even do this? As far as I know updates are forced on windows 10 and you cant simply not accept then. The only method I know to "kill" an update is to trick windows and set your connection as metered.

Is there any way to stop this from happening? Also I still see that windows is trying to update when I go settings > update and security > windows update. If this keeps up internet in my house will be unusable for days if not weeks lol

First off, if you have a 1 Mbps internet connect the solution isn't stopping Windows from updating, its getting better internet.  (I just want to make that clear)

Additionally, differing updates really is a bad choice cause it simply PILES onto your problem.  If you differ updates you're just going to have to install ALL the updates at some point.  Your best bet is to let it install updates while your at work or asleep, this way it has time to do these things and it wont interfere with you.

Trust me if there was another viable option for an ISP I would change. Right now my family pays $60/ month for advertised Mbps down. The same ISP has an "extreme package" which is 5Mbps but that is not available in my area. My only other option would be 5Mbps with a 50GB monthly cap, but I don't want to get a data cap. Welcome to rural Saskatchewan lol.

Anyways I suppose you are right, but I just hate how Windows 10 hanldes updates. I wish it were as easy to manage wen I actually wanted to update like it was in Windows 7 but oh well

You can set the schedule to any time you want.  And I live in a rural area as well, I understand the grief.  Had Dial Up all the way up until 2009...  Still don't officially have broadband.
