So recently there was just a power outage so all the electricity turned off therefor shutting my computer down instantly, did it damage anything?

Was your PC connected to a UPS?  Was your PC on when the outage happened?  Does your PC turn on?

usually no, it's the power surge when it comes back on that can do some damage.

should I unplug my PC then?

Yeah it's probably for the best.

Our Grace. The Feathered One. He shows us the way. His bob is majestic and shows us the path. Follow unto his guidance and His example. He knows the one true path. Our Saviour. Our Grace. Our Father Birb has taught us with His humble heart and gentle wing the way of the bob. Let us show Him our reverence and follow in His example. The True Path of the Feathered One. ~ Dimboble-dubabob III

Unplug it and wait a bit. You shouldn't be worried about your PC being damaged. It's unlikely but possible.

There might be some data loss but components shouldn't be damaged.

Unplug it and try to get a surge protector atleast if a UPS is out of the question.

would one of those power bars that split into 6 plugs work as a surge protector?

Power strips are not the same thing as surge protectors. Unless it's rated for surge protection I wouldn't think so.
