1. Budget & Location

I live in Europe. My budget is around 700-750 euros and can push around 100 euros more if it is really worth it.

2. Aim

I am not using my PC for video rendering, 3D work or streaming. I use it everyday for common things and mainly gaming so i want it to run modern games and AAA titles at 1080p pretty well. Another concern is that i want it to last ~5 years so that i won't need to build another PC in the near future.

3. Monitors

Currently have 1 monitor at 1080p and have no plans for more.

4. Peripherals

-

5. Why are you upgrading?

My reason for upgrading is that my current PC is getting pretty old.

After doing quite a bit of research and looking at some benchmarks i came up with this build, which in my country currently costs around 670 euros. Was thinking about going for Skylake 6600K and DDR4 but i don't really think that it's worth it for how much more performance it gives.

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor  (€249.34 @ Mindfactory)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97-HD3 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  (€102.44 @ Mindfactory)
Memory: Kingston Savage 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2400 Memory  (€100.98 @ Amazon Deutschland)
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  (€87.95 @ Mindfactory)
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 960 2GB Video Card  (Purchased For $0.00)
Total: €540.71

I have a few questions about this build as well. First of all I'm not really sure which mobo i should get. I feel like the HD3 rev1.0 is a good choice since i will want to OC my 4690K but there is a rev2.1 of it so i don't know whether i should get 1.0 or 2.1 since i struggled to find any information about these two and couldn't figure out the obvious difference. Another concern is RAM since pcpartpicker shows warning that it's voltage is at 1.65V whereas Haswell maximum is 1.5V. Another thing is PSU. I don't know how good this one is but it is fairly cheap where i live, also I might replace my 960 in a few years with something more powerful (like 970 or even 980TI) and I want to make sure that 550W is enough. Lastly i would like to buy a fairly decent mid tower or full tower ATX case for ~60 euros (it doesnt need to have fancy things like a window and it doesnt need to be very good-looking) but i don't know what i should buy.

Thanks for your help :)

RMx PSUs are usually quite expensive so I'm quite impressed when you said it wasn't. Maybe try to find an even cheaper one such a SeaSonic 520 S12II or a Antec High Current Gamer? But yeah, 550W is enough.

As for the case, it sounds like the NZXT S340 might be your best bet for that price range.

you don't really need 16gb of ram 8 gb will do fine and probably will do fine for atleast a few years

I think the mobo doesnt support 2400 mhz ram so get 1600mhz ram instead

[CPU] i5-650 [GPU] MSI GTX 750 OC [RAM] Generic 6GB [MOBO] MS-7613 [HDD] WD Blue 1TB [PSU] Silverstone Strider Essential 500W [Next build Q1 2016 http://de.pcpartpicker.com/user/Presmo/saved/ ]

IMHO, the gigabyte z97 hd3 boards are very crappy. i have had 3 of them, 2 gave me problems. one had ram compatibility issue, the other just refused to post.the third one i think works ok, its sold.

better get something like:

ASUS Z97-P

http://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/Asus-Z97-P-Intel-Z97-So-1150-Dual-Channel-DDR3-ATX-Retail_971718.html

or for SLI:

Asus Z97-AR

http://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/Asus-Z97-AR-Intel-Z97-So-1150-Dual-Channel-DDR3-ATX-Retail_961244.html

but if you are just looking to run everyday things, games and such.

Best to sell your current GPU, get lower cost parts and spend on a better GPU.

i5 4460 + r9 390/ gtx970 will give u much nicer smoother 1080p.

But since you already have a 960, you might want to SLI it. Which is honestly slight waste of money as SLI mobo is pricier.

and here in germany its so easy to sell used gpu at high price.

The RM550 is alright, i dont know how cheap u can get it, and its enough even for a 980ti, if you are not overclocking the CPU too much.

either go for the build u said and wait before upgrading your gpu.

Or make this build, and upgrade your gpu now:

same ingame performance, 160euros cheaper.

@Frike follow your own topic, I can tell you right off the bat that if you're even considering a 980(TI) you need a 650+W PSU, otherwise the build seems nice, not sure what those revisions are, but they were probably done for a reason, no? The RAM thing I honestly don't know what is, maybe find something that doesn't set off warnings?
