Will this RAM setup work?

So my question is about my current setup and what I can do with it ram wise. There will be a picture attached so if you don't understand what i'm talking about, you can refer to that.

 

So I have 4GB of RAM installed. Patriot 4GB 1600mhz. I bought The exact same RAM but with a capacity of 8GB. Please not that each RAM set is 2x2 and 2x4.

 

Lets say that each slot is A TO D (A-B-C-D),

Will it work if I have the two 2GB sticks in A and C and the two 4GB sticks in B and D?

 

My goal is to have 12 GB of ram so I can play JC3.

 

Any help this wonderful forum gives me is appreciated greatly!

yes. They are made by the same manufacture, and they are just different capacities.

 

 You should have no issues or compatibility problems at all, unless the 8gb stick(s) are DoA.

Yeah, I did the same thing to play JC3 myself. 2x2gb hynix, 2x4gb kingston on my dell OEM mobo. I changed my mobo so now I have 1x4gb and 1x8gb Gskill. Both worked great for JC3.

I would but the higher cap ones in slot 1 & 3 but yes it will probably work.

Yes, that is possible. Just make sure you use the lowest common multiple on the DRAM timings and voltage (highest voltage, and highest latency between the two memory kits).

 

For an example:

• 4GB (2GB X 2) kit is DDR3-1600 MHz with 9-9-9-24 1.6V settings
• 8GB (4GB X 2) kit is DDR3-1600 MHz with 9-10-9-24 1.5V settings

Set all memory timings and voltages, in the BIOS, to DDR3-1600 MHz, 9-10-9-24 1.6V.
