Windows update stuck

My computer has been stuck for about 5 hours now.

It says "Keep your PC on until this is done, installing update 1 of 1."

Its windows 8.1

What do i do?

Saying that 10 is "a lot better" is subjective more than objective.

Either way, it's Windows being Windows, it loves to fuck up updates for some reason.

its a lot better because its getting the latest support, will actually be relevant 5 years from now, will support the next generations of CPUs, has improved performance and system resource management, implements newer features such as DX12, and is built upon modules instead of a single giant piece of code

Could be a USB device messing up, or anything really.

Point one is really not something that should be used against Windows 8.1 really.

Point two... I should really bring up Windows 7.

Point three is kind of arbitrary as it looks like Microsoft is trying to force it to be this way.

Yes it has "extended support" to 2020 but no new CPUs are going to be supported on either 7 or 8/8.1

btw if you think windows 10 is broken then youre probably doing something wrong, because 99% of programs that work on 7/8/8.1 also work on windows 10

so yeah, its mosts likely your fault anyway if a program is having issues

I was one year short on windows 8.1, sue me. 

Windows 10's "Mainstream support" ends in 2020 anyway, mainstream support means dick all.

Okay, first and most importantly, MS will back down on that faster than they dropped the kinnect. Not happening haha. 

Secondly, what the fuck does that mean to OP? He already has his rig. He doesn't need to upgrade right now, most importantly because his windows install is not broken. 

Windows XP did this, windows Vista did this, Windows 7 did this, Windows 8 did this, and windows 10 does this. It just needs a reboot.

 

btw if you think windows 10 is perfect just because it works for you, you're probably doing something wrong, something something arrogance something something have some respect kid. 

 

I've installed windows 10 on several thousand PCs since it came out. Many work, but many do not. 

It is an unfinished product that needs more time to be fixed before you should update to it. It's game releases all over again, push it out now and fix it later, numbers numbers numbers.

if you're talking about metro apps you can shove those where the sun don't shine. Any program that works on 8 will work on 10, visa versa. Same platform.

Do I even need to mention the various privacy concerns with windows 10? Probably not, because it's too late for you anyways.
