5820K Core temperature VS CPU temperature

Go to solution Solved by Lonis,

So yes... it was the SpeedFan that screwed up. I tried logging the temperatures using the Hardware Monitor Pro which produced much better results: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2jgSnyit18lWnJlTnN4UVRPV2s/view?usp=sharing

Hello,

I have a 5820K processor and I used the SpeedFan program to log its temperatures while running a test. I noticed that the CPU temperature reading was significantly lower than the temperature reading of the individual CPU cores. Here is a diagram of 20min test: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1cnyEzZYwIWP3N8GKN4U0hp-s-iq7QmtGvxTYLgiaJPg/pubchart?oid=358285728&format=interactive

I realize that the CPU and CPU Core temperature sensors are different things, but should their reading be that much different and if so I would really like to know why :)

Cores 3, 4, and 5 are all running near idle. It looks like it just averaged them together to get the 'CPU' reading.

Edit: Unless I misunderstood those colors. Damn TN panel. In that case, that is a bit odd I think.

Hello Rune,

thank you fro the reply. I thought it looked weird. I'll try a different software for logging later today to see if that makes a difference. Although, core temperatures around 60 - 70 C makes sense under a load, right?
