Nope, you can remove any fans you don't want to use, assuming you have enough airflow coming into the case and exhausting out of it.

On the NZXT Phantom full tower case, there are two fan slots on one of the side panels. I would like to do a case mod for the phantom but I don't want the two fans there. Do I need them?
