Contemplating - Spartan 2.0

Big-G

OK, to understand where I'm going, we will need to know where I'm coming from:

I'm living in Melbourne, Australia, and all prices quoted by myself will by in A$ ;)

Introducing Spartan:

  • ThermalTake Urban S41 ATX Case
  • Corsair AX1200i Platinum rated 1200W Power Supply
  • Asus Maximus VI Extreme Z87 ATX Motherboard
  • Intel Core i7-4770K running at 4.2GHz
  • Cooler Master Seidon 120XL 120mm AIO CPU Cooler
  • 4x8GB (32GB) Corsair Dominator DDR3 1600MHz modules
  • LG 16x Blu-Ray Burner
  • OCZ Vector 512GB 2.5" SATA3 SSD Drive
  • Seagate Barracuda 4TB 3.5" 7200rpm Hard Drive
  • EVGA GTX 980 Classified ACX 2.0 4GB GPU
  • Sound Blaster ZxR PCIe Sound Card
  • 2x Asus VG278HE 144Hz TN FHD Monitors
  • Logitech G19s Gaming Keyboard
  • Logitech G700s Wireless Gaming Laser Mouse
  • Razer Orbweaver Mechanical Gaming Keypad
  • Xbox One controller with Wireless Adapter

I'm currently planning my upgrade to Spartan 2.0 sometime middle 2017, unless the industry screws me over and forces an earlier upgrade.

This system is purely used for Gaming, and as such my upgrades will be more gaming focused with a little "showing off" ;)

I've got two possible directions I could go, namely keep with the mainstream CPU/Mobo's or move up to the Enthusiast level. The current lists I'm about to list are based on available hardware, although I'm definitely not set in stone yet.

Currently my Mainstream options include:

  • Corsair Obsidian 900D Super Tower Case
  • Corsair AX1200i Platinum rated 1200W Power Supply (no need for anything bigger at the moment, and still a good performer)
  • Asus Maximus VIII Extreme Z170 EATX Motherboard
  • Intel Core i7-6700K running at about 4.8GHz
  • Corsair H110i GTX 280mm AIO CPU Cooler
  • 2x16GB (32GB) G.Skill Trident Z DDR4 3000MHz modules
  • Samsung 950 Pro 512GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD Module
  • 2x Samsung 850 EVO 2TB 2.5" SATA3 SSD Drive
  • Seagate Barracuda 4TB 3.5" 7200rpm Hard Drive (can keep this for data and media files)
  • 2x Gigabyte GTX 980 Ti Xtreme Gaming Windforce 6GB GPU
  • Asus ROG Swift PG279Q 165Hz IPS G-Sync WQHD Monitor
  • Asus VG278HE 144Hz TN FHD Monitor (keep it for monitoring)
  • Corsair Strafe RGB Cherry MX Silent Mechanical Gaming Keyboard
  • Corsair M65 RGB FPS Gaming Laser Mouse
  • Razer Orbweaver Chroma Mechanical Gaming Keypad
  • Xbox One controller with Wireless Adapter

and on the other hand my Enthusiast options include:

  • Corsair Obsidian 900D Super Tower Case
  • Corsair AX1200i Platinum rated 1200W Power Supply (no need for anything bigger at the moment, and still a good performer)
  • Asus Rampage V Extreme X99 EATX Motherboard
  • Intel Core i7-5930K CPU
  • Corsair H110i GTX 280mm AIO CPU Cooler
  • 4x8GB (32GB) G.Skill Trident Z DDR4 3200MHz modules
  • Samsung 950 Pro 512GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD Module
  • 2x Samsung 850 EVO 2TB 2.5" SATA3 SSD Drive
  • Seagate Barracuda 4TB 3.5" 7200rpm Hard Drive (can keep this for data and media files)
  • 2x Gigabyte GTX 980 Ti Xtreme Gaming Windforce 6GB GPU
  • Asus ROG Swift PG279Q 165Hz IPS G-Sync WQHD Monitor
  • Asus VG278HE 144Hz TN FHD Monitor (keep it for monitoring)
  • Corsair Strafe RGB Cherry MX Silent Mechanical Gaming Keyboard
  • Corsair M65 RGB FPS Gaming Laser Mouse
  • Razer Orbweaver Chroma Mechanical Gaming Keypad
  • Xbox One controller with Wireless Adapter

Please note: as mentioned, these are based on what's currently available and I'm trying to stick to a max spend of A$10000 and I am willing to change these based on what becomes available during 2016 and say Q1 2017. So please feel free to provide suggestions and recommendations and also anything else you might find relevant to this potential build. :)
