Dual 970 Display Input Problem

Hi,
I've recently been having problems with my Strix 970's.
When gaming after a certain amount of time my screen will go blank however I will still be able to hear my friend and them me.
It all started happening when I installed a new CPU, MOBO and Ram. So I tried a fresh install of the latest drivers. The problem still occurred.
Tried going back drivers to see if it was a driver issue; still the same.
Then I totally reinstalled Windows (My PC kind of needed it as it was a little bit boggy) however the same issue occurred.
My friend was also in the same boat as me with a single 970. However, him just doing a fresh install of the latest drivers cured the issue.
I looked online and decided to flash my GPU Bios' last night. However, I'm unsure of the results yet.
Is anyone else experiencing these problems?

 

I have both boosting to around 1500MHz. However, I went as far to underclock the GPU's and the same issue occured.

Check the cable. Swap them. Try one card at a time and see if its one of your 970's being a turd. 

I've tried this also, still no luck. I've not seen many cases of this maybe 4-5 just on a quick search. Just seems a little weird that the problem has happened to both me and my friend.

When the screen goes black, does it ever get back or do you need to hard reset? Did the in-game sounds get stuck in some kind of a loop when it happened? Does the PC go through a normal shut down if you just push the power button once?

On some occasions it will go back this has only happened maybe twice but I believe that was a different issue as it hasn't gone back since a fresh install of windows 10. The game audio will be fine maybe 50% of the time. And I've never tried just pressing the power button as I always hard reset he PC.

Just trying to figure out if it's your GPU drivers crashing or if it actually crashes your whole system. The power button thing could help you figure that out.

 

Hmm so let's see. What PSU do you have? What's your new hardware? Maybe it's having a hard time to power your system, or maybe it's dying.

 

Other than that, I would keep the cards at stock until I made sure the problem is gone. Have you tried running with a single card?

I have an AX760 Which I know is not Ideal but I checked the power draw and it is lower than expected so I don't believe it's that. I have a New motherboard, CPU and Ram. Upgrading from Haswell to Skylake. I've tried to run just the one also and the problem still occurs. As I said I think I BIOS flash will hopefully cure the problem. However if it doesn't I will try just the singular press of the Power Button. I was running the 970 in SLI on the same PSU for around 3 weeks aswell with absolutely 0 problems. Aside from poor SLI Utilisation In Rainbow Six Siege.

Well Skylake should consume less power than Haswell if I'm not mistaken, also DDR4 ram uses a little less power than DDR3 as well. So I guess power isn't a problem, though 760watt is pushing it for an SLI config. If anything though, it will mostly mean that your PSU won't be as efficient.

 

Check for BIOS updates to both your GPUs and your MOBO. Also make sure you try *both* cards one at a time, not just one of them. In the slight chance that just one of them happens to be defective.

Motherboard Bios was one of the first things I tried. I'm going to see if the Bios Update on the GPU's helps as it was an updated BIOS. I Find it hard to believe as I left furmark on for around 4 hours to test an Overclock on the two cards and it was completely stable on my old platform.

Not that hard to believe if there's some kind of a software conflict. Those Skylake motherboards are fairly new and perhaps the vendors needed to update their BIOS to fully support them. If there's an available update for your GPU's BIOS go ahead and try it out. Perhaps even just one card at a time again

I shall Try when I am home as I am currently at work. As you can tell it's a slow day so just trying to get some bookmarks and ideas of what to do when I'm home if still not working aha. Only five more hours to go    :unsure:

Hmm so it's your graphics driver crashing and not Windows itself. At this point I'm not really sure how to help you buddy You could always take it back to the store and have them test it for you, perhaps something is defective.

Trying to get hold of nVidia but there customer service is dire.

Just as an update to anyone who might be reading this thread because they have the same issue. I changed the configuration the GPU's were in and it seems that the DisplayPort has gone on one of my GPU's and swapping the way the cards are configured seems to have fixed the issues.
