Overclocking requieres a more expensive motherboard, cooler, and cpu, voids warrenties, and reduces the life of your components. All at the cost of peformance.

What?

Anyways...

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum, but its been recommended by a friend and I would like some help.

As mentioned earlier, I'm building a gaming PC (for the first time) and need some help deciding which parts to buy.

I would like to keep the budget within $1400-$1500, $1600 max, if I need.

Preferences are:

- The case is Black and blue

- The graphics card is at least $400

- The power supply to be 750 watt

- It's relatively easy to build, I'm not completely new to this but I've never built a whole PC, only replaced Graphics and RAM

I have also been recommended this build by a friend, if you could approve, disapprove or edit.

http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/JgPFQ7

Thank you so much if you could help!  :D

Edit - I would also like it to last around a year without upgrading anything if possible

Location? Will you need an OS? Peripherals?

I live in South Australia and have a Windows 7 OS key. Keyboard, mouse and monitor would be helpful, as I am looking to replace them as well, but not necessary.

The Price of the build your friend made did not include the case price, and the case is VERY expensive

Here, I updated your friend's list so it's the au link http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/Wz34rH

Sorry the case isn't black and blue, for all the one's I saw were not good cases, or were not in stock.

Also, unless you plan for a huge upgrade in the near future, even the 600w will be more than enough

R4-S2S-124K-GP is the model number of some great, cheap case fans that are nice and quiet. (4-pack, 120mm)

The CPU comes with a cooler

thx, didn't notice the CPU came with cooler

also, while i have someone who's more tech savvy than me, how and why do people overclock?

what does it do?

ah, thank you

It's talked about a lot and i wasn't exactly sure what it was

I'd much rather have a PC that runs excellently without overclocking, even if it meant paying extra

Better PSU and better GPU than the other build. Still under budget. Only difference is that the i5 6600 is .1ghz faster than the 6500, which will have little to no affect on gaming performance.

1. True

2. True (depending on CPU)

3. False ( you can overclock non-k skylake chips)

4. Very false

5. Pants on fire

6. All at the cost of free performance increases

Thanks for the information. I guess I misunderstood some things. Always more to learn!

Yes the stock speed is only .1 ghz slower, but the boost speed is .3. not THAT much, but still a bit more.
