CPU overclocking failure after Ram upgrade

I had my fx-6300 overclocked to 4.0 ghz for a while, but I figured I didn't really need the OC, so I turned it off. A while ago, I upgraded my ram to corsair vengence low profile ddr3-1600. For some reason, it showed up in my BIOS as 1333mhz, so I put up the 4.0 OC overclock and changed the ram to 1600mhz. All was well for a few days, but about a week later, my pc froze. When I rebooted, the POST said overclock unstable. So I turned down the OC to 3.8 ghz and is running fine. Today, I decided to put up the overclock to 4.0 ghz again, and it froze my pc again. This time I took note of the circumstances: I had restarted my pc, but when it turned back on, the fans and lights were on, but no display. Did a hard shut down and OC unstable screen showed up during POST. So my question is why does my pc detect the ram as 1600mhz, and why doesn't my overclock work anymore?
