For some reason, windows decides to turn its time back 2 minutes. When I booted the laptop up first the time seemed to be right, then I look at it a few minutes later and I see that it is wrong. I tried setting the correct time in the bios but it still didn't work. Any ideas how I can fix this?

Make sure the time in your bios is set correctly.

my guess is that the time you see as wrong is actually the right time it syncs with online time services. (every os does this, and platforms like the raspberry pi actually fully depend on it trough reboots)

Nope, even my other computers with windows on them report a time 2-3 minutes ahead.

could try checking bios time, but from what i feel this is just an oddity in NTP somewhere.

at least it doesnt put you back to 1976.

The battery is called a CR2032 button cell and can be found at your local walmart.

it can be found in a whole lot more places like that, especially if you like dumpster diving.

i'd actually dare to say its more commonly used than AA batteries at this point.

some examples of where i fish up my spare CR2032 cells:

- tv remotes (and others)

- pocket flashlights

- VERY shitty portable phone chargers

- broken computers (duh. in most cases the battery is just fine tho)

- bluetooth gadgets

- bigger electrical keychain gimmicks

- digital watches (some analog as well, but analog tend to go for smaller cells)

- pretty much any other low power device that runs off of batteries.

They've been in portable phone chargers?! I would love to see what device you've found that in.

i'll go see if it has a model number, but i doubt it. it was literally just two of them and a wire xD

but hey, free CR2032 right? (it was one of those fucked up buisiness gifts, you wont believe the hardware in some of those devices)

ever heard of this channel called EEVblog? Here is a teardown of the most AWFUL thrown together piece of garbage tablet:

i love watching the guy.

anyways, i went to check, no model number, no nothing. its the bigger CR2450 as well.

EDIT: i'm pretty sure those 10 cells were more expensive than two rechargable 7.2 volt packages.

Bet it's from china. Those Chinese will make ANYTHING (whether it does what it says or not) as long as they can get your money :D .

well, only china would put non-rechagrable cells in a rechargable device right?

of course. Cause why would they care about the customers experience? :D

i remember trying it on an old mp3 player (that was god awful, i still facepalm at my dad for forcing me to get the 4GB model) and it insta-fried.

charges my nokia brick just fine tho... once xD

EDIT: did some googling, appareantly they're not made to go past 9 mA, who in their right mind would even put that in a charger...

lesson here.. almost nothing free is ever good.

i have a better one: device comes with a rechargable batttery.

yes.. it does come with an off the shelf nokia battery, it however does not come with a way to charge it, or with a propper way of plugging in a battery (a socket wired straight up to the power terminals is not propper, thats a fire hazard)

anyways, some bodge wires and a 40 ohm resistor later i have a fancy device.

So what should I do? Do laptops have a cmos battery?

yes, depending on the laptop they may be hard to get to tho.

most laptops on the market have at least some form of teardown guide tho.
