Router/Gateway modem recommendations?

I might be in the market for a new router/gateway modem because this:

WiFi AC is preferable (because future proofing right?) and I'm trying to stay low budget wise. (But willing to pay the premium if needed)

I prefer something that can handle a lot of connections at the same time so my router wont be "overloaded". (So something with a strong CPU)

You can get whatever size tplink or netgear switch too. This option may not be the cheapest, but it is very powerful.
