Inkjet or Laser Printer?

CHarrisMedia

Basically, I have an Inkjet printer but we have to print lots of colour, usually in large quantities and it seems the Inkjet almost drains leaving colours washed out etc, I do understand these printers may not necessarily be for this type of printing and more occasional photo and document printing. We were planning on getting a new printer and i've noticed lots of institutions use Laser printers instead, I was wondering whether this would be a better option or if there was anything else worth looking at?

I'm also looking for recommendations on whatever printer is best :)

Most Laser printers will only print in black and white.

I think there are laser printers that can do colour, but they are expensive.

I would stick to an inkjet.

PCs, phones and tablets aren't the only tech out there ;)

I think printers are actually pretty interesting.

No one does. Printers are still antiquated pieces of crap that have yet to enter the 21st century.

In the long run, laser printers will end up being cheaper/faster, but a high end ink jet is still better for photo's/higher quality.

Laser is better if you don't care about photos, a high end ink jet is better if you do.

Also, "other", yes, please go out and buy a dot matrix printer :)

Thanks for all the replies!

^^ updated version

Thanks for providing the links, I watched both videos on this thread which presented me with some little information but my main question here is what would be better for printing large amounts of a particular colour, for example a leaflet or product manuals which are heavy in colour? Would a laser printer still be more economical here?

LASER PRINTERS have the advantage of lower cost per page and they print faster.  Text quality is also very sharp.  But photographic printouts look very bad.

INKJET PRINTERS have the advantage of nicer looking photographic printouts but text quality suffers.  On the other hand they are much cheaper upfront.

Balance the advantages and disadvantages with your needs.
