How's this for a mid range computer?

So I'm going away from home for college this year so I thought I'd invest into a laptop. Reason being I want a laptop is so that I can game a bit when I go home or even in school if I'm finished with all my homework and got nothing better to do. 

 

I'm taking programming classes and will be going for a programming/network major (not sure yet) so I'm hoping to use this for classes and have it run fast. Also I'm thinking about upgrading the RAM or installing an SSD in the future. So I browsed around a bit and found this.

Would this be a good choice? Also I'm not thinking about buying the laptop until around Thanksgiving time. Should I wait till then or buy soon?
