I have questions about my pc. So I have a intel pentium 3.2 ghz cpu and I wanted to buy a new gpu the gtx 970 gigabyte windforce. I'm not really a pc builder and idk if the cpu affects the gpu's performance. After the gpu upgrade I was thinking to buy a i5 6500.

Get an i5 4460 first. The Pentium is utter crap

The Pentium would most likely bottleneck the GTX 970's performance. Grab a i5 4460 first, and after that, upgrade to a R9 390. You might need to also upgrade your PSU.

if his current PC has a Pentium i dont think the PSU will be much of a work horse and getting an r9 390 + new PSU negates the value of getting a r9 390 over a gtx 970 (if his current PSU can even drive a gtx 970 that is)

Pentium is only good enough for something like a 950. Over that, i would suggest getting a better cpu first.

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case
