Unaccurate temperatures?

I hope this is the correct place to put this question. I recently built a new computer, specs are in signature, but I don't believe it is recording temperatures accurately, at idle in windows which 60 background processes and many open, just no games, it is idling at 17-20 degree's and goes upto 40-50 degree's (Max I've seen), the GPU is around 60-70 in a high end game on ultra and idles 40-50 (?)

 

Another problem I have is, I just restarted the computer it entered into the American Megatrends screen and said the default ASUS overclock had failed I just restarted it and it applied it, is this a problem?

Edit: Might just be my inexperience and thinking it's too low but I need your opinion it.

What program are you using to monitor your temps? Is this what is being reported in BIOS or are you using the readings of HWinfo / HWMonitor / SpeedFan etc? Some software programs are known to give inaccurate readings for temperature, voltages, etc.

You may have faulty sensor.

 

As for overclocking, have you done any? If not, update BIOS. If you have, it obviously isn't stable.
