Any reason why you went with a Xeon?

It equals pretty much an i7-4770, no reason not to go for it honestly

You'll need a display card until you get the gpu. That xeon does not have on board graphics.

just get a 20$ display card from the bargain bin.

i have the 1230............ i wouldn't buy that cpu cooler either. the noctua with the 2 different sized famns fans on it that blows down on the motherboard and components or one similar. overkill for a 80watt processor. ( h12l or something like that ).

It's a fair point he has. Xeons have become somewhat of a status symbol for some reason. Even when presented with an equivalent i7-4770 the xeon has the added bragging rights that may justify the cost to some people. Wether or not xeons should come with bragging rights is a different story, but from many peoples perspectives they do. I can't blame him honestly as I bought three noctuas to help cool my PC when a cheaper brand would have probably done just as well for my purposes. Why? Because I can say I got a noctua.(And because I like the colors.)

Don't do drugs. Do hugs!

Xeon are excellent cpu but except for a few models, do not have an iGPU. You will need some sort of gpu to use this build.

I would suggest going with Intel Xeon E3-1246 V3 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor. It has an integrated gpu. To meet budget, delay purchase of the Hyper 212 EVO. The cpu comes with an Intel cooler which will be fine.

If OP's only other choice was a regular 4770 then sure, go with the Xeon. If the 4770K was an available option, that would be better, higher clock speeds trump threads any day for games.

One is not going to be able to do any graphics intensive work or gaming. But that would be true of any system that lacks a discreet gpu.

Replacing a cpu cooler can be a bit of a pain.

What case will the system be going in?
